On Sunday 13th Feb. 5 club members ventured out into the wind and waves at the North end of Coniston Water. We made our way up the west side towards the Bluebird cafe. Tempestuous waters where Yewdale Beck enters the lake resulted from the beck water meeting the waves rolling down the lake and bouncing off the boulders reinforcing the shore line. Discretion being the better part of valour we retraced our steps and moved up the east of the lake. Edging out into the swell we played on the waves to practice boat control while surfing down the lake.
Although wet and windy this was great experience - you never know when the weather is going to turn so should make an effort to go out in poor conditions so you know your limitations and improve your skills. Feb.5th + 6th saw 6 club coaches / instructors spend a wet and very windy weekend studying 'Core Coach Training' with provider Dan Wilkinson. Based on the water and in the class room this training is to prepare for accessing any of the many paddlesport discipline coach courses. Although it may look calm on the water it was a bit of a trial getting through the wind and waves to the relative calm at the far side of the dock.
Thanks go to Dan for providing the training and to 'The Outdoor Partnership' for funding that covered the majority of the costs. John, DCC coaching organizer https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjzCzEx |
