Duddon canoe club polo players of all experiences have been to penrith today ( 13/5/24) to play canoe polo in a cumbrian tournament.. there were 6 teams altogether lakeland, Lancaster Uni, 2 from Penrith and 2 from Duddon.. A great time was had by all, with the 1st timers getting stuck in.. luca, and xander giving it all in defence Emily Louise Dunn( first time for duddon) being in the right place at the right time and Jamie Magee doing a top job in goals... These were supported by players that have played before Scott Wilson , Michelle, Lee Bentley , Ryan,Connor, John Sherwen , and Teigan Harrison who all did amazingly well for thier own teams and volunteering to play for lakeland who were short of players too.. The practice at the pool sessions is showing and coming together... Thank you all you played well.. Thanks goes to penrith canoe club for organising.. (Hilary Clarke ) Comment by xander ..... On the way to penrith, I felt quite nervous and excited to participate in my first polo tournament. My first match I felt nervous and unsure about, but as we played more my confidence got greater. Leaving the pool after our teams final match I felt great, feeling we had performed well and had great fun playing against other teams. I look forward to our next game. Thank you all for a great time Comment by Emily... It was a great opportunity to return to Penrith pool where I first learned to play canoe polo a couple of years ago (lovely to see Hilary again!). As someone who's never really been into competitive sport I remember feeling a bit intimidated at first, and I still often feel like I'm a bit rubbish at it but today really helped to get my confidence back. The coaches kept giving helpful advice and encouragement, and I had a good feeling at the end of every match because we'd given it our best shot. I think we also improved our communication and teamwork as the tournament went on, which was nice to see. (This was my third polo tournament - I seem to have done one a year so far, each with a different club! Might start doing more this year though) If anyone would like to give canoe polo ago please do. Report by DCC Polo Coach Michelle Sanderson The Duddon canoe club Marathon race on Sunday 7th has been cancelled. Not only are gale force winds forecast but some of those travelling from Scotland, the Midlands and East Yorkshire have expressed concern regarding potential damage to boats being transported in such conditions. We hope to try again in the summer. Please let everyone know.
