A good day for Duddon canoe club to do a litter pick on Ulverston canal.
Sadly even John had to accept the bike couldn't be fixed After all that paddling through the tunnels of Dudley yesterday, some members stayed over and were joined by others from DCC to compete at Trentham Marathon. A variety of medals were won today. DCC members took part in the West Midlands Black Country Canal Tour at Dudley by paddling through the mines, through the Dudley tunnel and then through the Netherton tunnel before paddling back to the start. This was a round trip of over 8m miles where many paddlers and SUP board users had a great time. Finishing with tea at the Gongoozlers cafe. With the polo court fixed and nets in place it was a good time to put them to the test. Afterwards the 8 person sup board was dusted down and launched. Its great to see the warmer weather starting to return. Why not pay a visit to the docks on a Friday evening and give polo, SUP boarding or paddling out in a canoe or kayak a go.
John was the only one from DCC to join a select bakers dozen, mainly from Newcastle Uni CC, for the Prudhoe WWR on Sunday 7th. A cloud bust over the Tyne catchment during the night resulted in fast flowing spate conditions with all features washed out.
The first run started in still, overcast conditions but the glorious of yesterday soon returned and many garments were shed for subsequent runs. Many did runs in different classes though this was the first experience of WWR for many. A day, that was at times too hot in the organisers tent!!, saw a great turnout with paddlers from around the county, Scotland, Nottingham and Halifax. 30 finishers made for good competition in K1, K2, C1, C2 and OC1 and a variety of GP/slalom boats. Many paddlers tried different boats and some even had time for a gentle swim down Sands Rapid.( not accidentally but to cool down).
Thanks to the helpers, time keepers, starters and members of Carlisle CC who had cleared the undergrowth to aid access to the river. John |
