​John, Josh and Emma were at the Malton Marathon race on Sunday. A change to be on moving water of another river Derwent. Gold for Josh and Emma, silver for John. A great day out but a long one, 300 mile round trip.

​Todays family paddle set off early morning from Fell Foot. Conditions were ideal albeit a bit on the warm side as the day wore on. As usual a great time was had by all those that attended. Thanks go to Sarah for transporting the boats up to the park and to Jamie and Christine for pics of the day.

Friday evening was busy at the docks with members of all ages taking to the water in an assortment of craft including SUP's, play boats, race boats. One member tried out a race boat and manoeuvred it exceptionally well for her first time, didnt you Christine ​

On Saturday 5th May, a group of local women and girls came together at Barrow pool for our first ever ladies session. It was a great success, and we got some really lovely feedback from the participants, all of whom are excited to come back for the next one. Even better, the mums and daughters watching from the side have also asked to join in next time!
As part of this project we were fortunate to receive around £6000 of funding from local sports charities. The funding was given to us in order to create a safe and welcoming space for women and girls who might not have considered coming to general club sessions, and has allowed us to hire the pool out of hours in order to fit some of the extra needs of this group. Part of the requirements for the funding were to consult with local groups and build the project with this in mind, so we are very grateful to the various members of the local community who gave their time to speak with us and promote the sessions, as well as speaking to funders on our behalf. While some of the funding has gone directly to the sessions we are running, much of it has gone towards funding coaching, instructing and first aid qualifications for existing members of the club, and purchasing new equipment which will benefit the club as a whole. If anyone would like to know any more about all the work that has gone into organising these sessions and obtaining this funding, please let me know and I’ll do my best to get back to you when I have the time.
We are now looking forward to organising our ladies only dock sessions, which will be on 9th June, 23rd June and 6th July. We should have a bit more space for these, so anyone who was interested but couldn’t make it to the pool is welcome to get in touch at [email protected]
