2021.8.26 dcc sea paddle

Starting out from Roa Island five DCC members paid a visit to
Sheep Island.
"From 1892 - 1922 there was a seldom used isolation hospital on the island. Erected in wood by Barrow Council for a cost of £257. Seems a lot for a wooden hut!!! I would not pay that much now!
Headin Haw.
The Milfort Gunpowder Co. built a powder magazine here in 1853. Powder was sent to Lindal Moor, Hodbarrow - - - ( presumably to the mines). It was last used in 1876. The magazine stock book is in Barrow Records Office."

2021.8.11 FAMILY PADDLE

Despite torrential rain for most of the paddle, everyone had great evening setting off from Brown Howe, down to Allan Tarn and back again with a tea break on the east side. The evening was finished off for some with a swim in Coniston where the elusive striped dipper was spotted diving into the depths of the lake. ( sorry no pictures as they were to quick) Thanks to great company and to Sarah for organising the trip.

Thanks go to Andy for organising, what is becoming a yearly event, the DCC club camp. Everyone who attended the camp had a great time on and off the water when they paddled on the North Tyne. To see the full album of great pictures then visit the gallery.

With permission from the Leisure centre manager and parents Carol captured moments of the youngsters at the pool practising their capsizing skills and getting used to being under water. They all enjoyed it.

2021.8.1 dcc sea paddle

Yet another brilliant sea paddle for members of DCC today starting at Ferry Pitchings down to Peil and beyond.
"Great day out today.Well done to all of you. I know you had all had enough by the time we got back. I just hope we didn’t overdo it for you. That was a significant paddle, with virtually no tidal assistance in either direction, and a wind that decided to be in our faces both outbound and homebound. The only positive about the wind was the dead calm as it changed direction, which also coincided with our Seal experience….. and what a one good today.
We covered a total of 18km ( 12 miles)”Ray

“It did feel like a bit of a slog against the wind coming back and I'm feeling it now but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The seals were definitely full of fun and so close again. We're very lucky to be able to experience that literally on our doorsteps.
Thank you to all of you for a great day out”
