2018.9.30 DCC MOVING WATER TRAINING

30/9/2018

It was a day of great personal achievement for many DCC members who took part in moving water training on the Crake at Greenodd. Paddlers of all ages new to moving water succeeded in not only paddling on the river but also attempting going over the weir for the first time. One grandmother decided to set a good example to her grandaughters and led the way over the weir to show them there was nothing to fear. Little did they know she couldn't stop her legs shaking. Three young members received their PaddlePower Start certificates off John on completion of that course today. It was one young members 11th birthday  so we rounded off the day with a cuppa and a chunk of birthday cake. Chugaboom, Carols van, was a great asset in providing shelter and brews. Thanks go to Andy for organising the event.

2018 DCC FAMILY PADDLE ON CONISTON

9/9/2018

We gathered together by the side of Coniston lake at Brown Howe wondering what the day would throw at us in the way of weather. As you can see in the distance there was thick set cloud but where we were it was bluish skys and quite calm so we set off towards the bottom of the lake where the River Crake begins. Not long after paddling along the river we entered an open expanse called  Alans Tarn. For those new to the area we  spent time chatting and exploring a while before returning the way we came back to the lake shore to have our packed lunch. Afterwards we split into two groups with one lot returning to Brown Howe and the other continuing up to Wild Cat island and down Crocodile river before heading back. There was a change in weather but it didn't stop anyone from having a great time. The day was captured mainly by Nancy who has now turned her hand from coaching to photography. Great photo of her wellies. Thanks to John for organising the paddle.

2018 dcc family fun day

"What a brilliant day!!!!! A fantastic turn out to our fun day, with over 100 people out on the water trying all manner of craft. Sixty + of today's visitors were new to paddlesports, and others were returning after a long break. We're so pleased we've had the opportunity to promote our incredible sport to so many people. Once again huge thanks are due to our small army of volunteers who make all this possible, and the community who turn up and make it all worthwhile. 😁" Cari

Great pictures of the day by Cari and Carol.

Some great comments on the days from visitors to the event
Michelle Holmes "Thank you for today my little boy really enjoyed it"
Karen Baxter "Happy little kayaker!"
Gaynor Pearson "Super friendly event"
