DCC held a wildwater race at Carlisle today. It was well attended with many medals being won. There were 23 paddlers and 70 runs in a variety of craft.

Today was DCC's South Lakes flat water race on Lancaster canal starting at Borwick. It was well attended with paddlers travelling from as far as Macclesfield. One young man made his debut at racing today after only paddling three times before. His hard work and determination to finish saw him receive a gold medal for his efforts. A few paddlers will no doubt be promoted due to their fast times. Two paddlers competed on SUP boards. A successful day was had which will hopefully be repeated later on in the year. This evening started with flat water training in preparation for the South Lakes Marathon this Sunday on Lancaster Canal at Borwick. The youngsters went out on SUP boards and ended the evening with a SUP yoga session under the watchful eyes of Emma, Russ and Michelle. Friday evening at the docks was spent mainly training for the South Lakes Marathon to be held on 27th April on Lancaster Canal, Borwick. The Easter Bunny paid a visit as Carol had organised an Easter Egg hunt. If your lucky there may be enough left over for another hunt this Friday (25th April) This evening saw a new DCC member paddle for only the second time, the first time being a quick go on Lancaster canal and the second this evening at the dock. He did himself proud as gaining in confidence and teaming up with his daughter they headed out across the water. Well done.  The first Friday session of the year was a bit windy but it was a pleasant change to see blue skies and the sun. It was also great to see how far two young members had progressed over the past year as we watched then team up together to get their own kit and boats out then carry it all to the waters edge ready for launching, all without any prompting. Friday sessions run from 6-8pm through out the year till October. John Sherwen travelled down to compete in the Brigg marathon, "The start of Div 9 at the Brigg marathon today. I’m in the canoe on the far side of the river. Look great but the wind was very strong and almost had me over a couple of times" Picture by Friends of GSCC  DCC head coach John Sherwen went down to Weymouth where he ran a sponsored half marathon. "Thanks to all those club members who sponsored me in the Weymouth half marathon. The family and friends raised over £1,500 in this ‘run for Granny’ for the hospice that helped care for ‘granny’ last year. (I did it in 2.40 and was first in my age group - only because i was the oldest runner so had no competition. )"  Scott organised moving water training on the Crake at Greenodd today. All had a great time especially with conditions being so good and the weather nice for the time of year. Pictures by Carol. Teigan Harrison, Martha Bozic and I went to Cheadle to play in the North West regionals woman's canoe polo tournament, we met up with 2 other ladies and one other youth player from Penrith, Hilary, Emily and Maeve, we played 2 games this time round, drew the first one 1/1 and won the second 5/4 most goals scored by Hilary with Teigan and myself bagging one each, the team worked hard together in defence, a good time was had by all Well done everyone...
