Family paddles are open to everyone of all ages and abilities. They are aimed at having fun taking in the surrounding vistas as they unfold in front of you on the river, canal or lake. The New Years Day 2019 paddle was held on Coniston Lake. Starting from Monks Coniston we paddled around Wild Cat Island making our way across the lake to Blue Bird Cafe for a well earned hot chocolate before returning back to shore. The next family paddle is the Easter egg hunt from Brown Howe Coniston.
DCC also give the folks and families of Furness and the surrounding areas a chance to have a go at the sport. Once a year DCC open their gates to the public and invite them to try out different types of boats and stand up boards(SUP). They can then follow this with a well earned rest and refreshments. There are stalls such as face painting and hook a duck which are set up by the dock side.
DCC also assist a local environmental group raise funds. The Ulverston Canal Regeneration Group hold a gala once a year on Ulverston Canal and DCC members give visitors and families a chance to paddle on a stretch of water not normally accessible by anyone.
